There are plenty of trends to choose from each season, but this spring 2008 I’ve narrowed them down to the most
significant. Give any of these a try to look fashionable and current.
- Color
Color is back in a big way. Choose your colors wisely. Reds, Oranges, Yellows, Greens, Blues, and Purples. They all have a place this season. Almost any color will work. More than most years we are really seeing a wide variety of colors on the market.
- Safari
A little safari can absolutely go a long way. From khakis, to cargos, to shirt dresses, and exotic prints, we are seeing the safari motif everywhere. Stick with either safari details in your clothing choices or your accessories, but not both.
- Straw
Similar to the safari look, we are seeing lots of earth tones and natural fibers in accessories. Rope, raffia, wood, and natural fibers are everywhere. They are lighter than leather and soften your look for spring.
- Animal Prints
Again, a little goes a long way. You cannot go wrong investing in a little leopard print. It has been around for years and continues to be the classic animal print. When choosing animal prints, stick with their natural colors. Don’t pick up and hot pink and black zebra print. Keep it black and white like it is in nature. Same goes for cheetah, cow, whatever.
- Ethnic Prints
Thanks to designers like Balenciaga and Oscar de la Renta, we’re seeing ethnic prints in scarves, dresses, skirts, and tops. This trend isn’t appearing as much in accessories as the others, so just stick with ethnic printed clothing. Women are mixing the many interesting colors and prints to create even more striking and dramatic combinations. Beware, this is not for the fashionably challenged! There is huge potential for it to go wrong. My advice is stick with one ethnic print and pair it with solids.
- Full Bloom
Bright, floral prints are popping up everywhere this season. From floral prints, to rose appliques, to rose structures on garments, and flower details on shoes and bags, no matter where you look, flowers are in bloom. Like any trend, a little goes a long way. Careful with the colors that you choose. Keep them in your color palette, and in your contrast level. If you’re doing a floral print garment, stick with solid accessories, and vice versa.

I love the fusion between fine art and fashion that we are seeing in Prada’s Spring 2008 line of clothes and accessories. I am absolutely obsessed with this bag and if I had an extra $2,000 to part with, I would buy one. It is so unique, yet the style is still so practical in it’s shape.
All of their dresses and tops this season have this similar print on them which gives them a soft, feminine, yet somehow Asian feel as well. I would like to see more of this blend between art and fashion. They’ve really set themselves a part this season.

I’m loving this panther bangle by Lily Posh. There are so many animal bracelets on the market right now with this whole safari trend, that its hard to find one that looks different or is a little better quality. Many of them are just cheap plastic, or they are way too expensive. This one by Lily Posh is perfect because it’s not too over the top, it’s the right size, and it has green eyes. I love it!
Pair this with another solid gold bangle on the same wrist with jeans, a white top, and a khaki safari jacket to look perfectly put together and on trend.

Women are constantly searching for the perfect pair of jeans, and rightly so. They are such a staple in our wardrobe these days that you need to make sure you have at least one fabulous pair of jeans. Here are a few things to think about when you’re on your quest:
1) Realistically assess yourself and your body just as you are today. Don’t buy jeans that are too small thinking that you’ll lose weight. Jeans are way too expensive to be playing this sort of Russian roulette. Buy jeans that fit you TODAY! You will look and feel fabulous in them.
2) Flap or No Flap? If you have a flat bottom, a flap pocket will look great on you because it will give your bum a bit of lift and definition. If you are curvier down below, avoid the flap, as it will just add extra bulk to your bottom. Keep things smooth and simple down there.
3) Don’t let the length bother you. Most jeans are made for a woman that is about 5′8″, and as we well know, most women aren’t 5′8″. Always ask to keep the original hem when getting your jeans hemmed. This means that instead of just folding your jeans under and sewing a hem, they actually cut off the original hem and resew it back on where you want it. It keeps any of the design details like fraying, fading, special stitching, etc. on the jeans. No one will be able to tell that they’ve been hemmed.
4) Look for a contoured waist. Your jeans should be higher in the back than they are in the front. If you are curvier, they should be significantly higher in the back than in the front. This will ensure that you can sit down without revealing every last detail of your underwear.
5) Avoid the “muffin top.” This happens when the waist band is too tight. Sometimes you need to go up a size to look a size smaller. Always buy jeans to fit your largest area and then tailor them in where you are smaller. For example, if you have larger hips and thighs, but you are small in the waist, buy jeans to fit your hips and thighs and take in the waist. This will guarantee that you have a good fit.
There are many more tips where these come from. As always, I’m here as your stylist, image consultant, and personal shopper to help you with anything you need. Feel free to ask me any questions you may have.

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am obsessed with any combination of blues, aquas, and whites. Needless to say, I love this dress.
What a perfect dress to wear on a summer evening out. The colors are cooling, the gentle pleating around the neck is feminine, the length isn’t too short, and you will stand out in the sea of other black dresses. Not to mention the fact that the color blocking on this dress is perfect for anyone that is a little larger down below than up top. The dark blue at the bottom with make your hips and bum look smaller, while the white up top will bring the attention up to your beautiful face. Enjoy!

Designers from Nine West and Aldo, to Prada and Dolce & Gabbana are all jumping on the multi color snakeskin bandwagon. Whether you choose a few bangles, a strappy pair of sandals, or a fabulous clutch, add some of these fun colors to your spring and summer wardrobes. Obviously a little of these colors go a long way, so moderation is key. You don’t want to look like Rainbow Bright. My advice is limit these colors to your accessories and only wear one at a time…i.e. the clutch, or the sandals, or the bangles, but not all of them at once.

I’m loving this racerback silk dress by Nellie Partow. It’s got just the right combination of sportiness with the racer-back and femininity with the ruffles and shiny fabric. What a perfect dress for a hot summer day. You could layer a bright colored tank underneath, or wear with jeans when it’s a bit cooler.
