In today’s competitive corporate world, your image is more important than ever. An increase in your perceived credibility, intelligence, success and confidence can often be the deciding factor in an agreement or sale. I’ve included a brief breakdown of business color psychology for you below. Keep this in mind when you get dressed in the morning. Make sure you are sending the right message in your color choices.
The Color of Business
Our eyes see and remember color much quicker and better than anything that we say or do. It makes sense that color plays an important role in the first impressions of our professional presence.
Dark colors have the most authority, and when accented with lighter or brighter colors, they can be even more powerful. Middle shades are best for creating a feeling of approachability.
Black
A power color, especially for women. It gives a sense of authority, control, and leadership.
Gray
A timeless color that evokes a feeling of participation rather than leadership.
Blues
Navy is less harsh than black, giving a feeling of approachable authority.
Reds
This family exudes confidence. In a conservative environment it is considered too flashy. Burgundy, however, is authoritative and a nice alternative.
Browns
Chocolate, taupe, tan or camel are the most acceptable browns for conservative, formal business attire. They are approachable colors, neutral, and can be worn with a variety of colors.
Whites
Great for accents, and adds authority when paired with dark suits.

Summer is almost here, so make sure you’re sandal collection is ready to go. If you don’t already have a pair, make sure you add a great pair of metallic wedges with a natural heel to your summer style. They look great paired with a casual sun dress, shorts, or with a more fancy summer evening look. They easily transition from day to night, providing you with endless options. The fact that they are metallic means that they will match almost anything, as well as reflect the goldeny bronze of your sun kissed skin. Enjoy this summer staple!

Here’s a little taste of my Style Solution class on How to Shop Like a Celebrity Stylist. For the full handout and audio please email me on erin@erinstafford.com.
Get to know the malls and boutiques in your area
Malls are great because everything is there in one spot, but boutiques are the ones that will really work with you. Talk to your friends, ask people who are well dressed, and figure out where they shop.
Have direction
Know what you’re looking for in order to shop with precision. Stylists always know what look they are trying to achieve for a photo shoot, movie premiere, etc. They get a brief from the art director or from the celebrity’s publicist or agent.
Get to know your sales people
They will save you time, money, and make your life easier. They’ll pull sizes in advance for you, tell you when new merchandise is in, as well as let you pre-shop the sales.
Don’t be afraid to try new things
90% of what you try on won’t work on you. This doesn’t mean that there’s something wrong with you. No one will see you in the dressing room. Make a point to take 5 new things you wouldn’t normally try on into the dressing room with you each time you try something on. Stylists take multiple rolling racks full of clothes to celebrity’s houses to fit them for just a few outfits.
Get to know your tailor
Clothing doesn’t come off the rack fitting perfectly, you have to make them fit. Celebrity stylists get everything tailored for their clients. Sometimes they need multiple fittings. This is normal. I look forward to sharing more information with you and helping you look and feel fabulous!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my high end designers, but there is something so satisfying about finding an incredible steal at Target. I know there are a zillion other bargain stores out there, but I am still very partial to Target. The partnerships they have with designers doing exclusive lines for them has really increased the level of design in their clothing. Their accessories have also really improved recently as well.
I took a spin around Target yesterday and bought theses three items, each under $15! I am obsessed with blues and greens, so I had to pick up this scarf. It’s light weight so it can be worn in warm and cool weather. It’s amazing how a bright scarf can instantly add style to the most mundane outfit of jeans and a white tee.
The straw tote is perfectly on trend right now with it’s safari vibe, and is ideal for running around town or heading to the beach. It also comes in a darker tan, but I think the lighter one is better for summer.
And lastly the green beaded bracelet with the snake adds a touch of exoticness to any outfit. Throw this on with a sundress or your favorite jeans to give you look a bit of pop and mystery.
All items are available now at www.target.com.

Like 100,000 other people, I spent the weekend at the Coachella Valley Art and Music Festival. It was my first 3 day festival and I have to say, it was fantastic. It was so well organized, there was plenty of shade, the food was good, and most importantly, the bands were amazing.
On a different note, I was not at all prepared for the truly unique fashion creations that I saw there. I had been gathering pictures for you, but sadly, my camera was stolen, so you’ll have to make due with these pics I found on the internet. The fashions really did run the gamut from next to nothing mini bikinis to retro, boho, raver, hippie, and everything in between. It is rare to find a place where every walk of life feels like they can express themselves visually. I loved being a part of all the creativity the surrounded the festival. If you haven’t been before, you definitely need to check it out next year. Start planning your unique outfits now!
